EXERCISE: This exercise relates to the shock we all experienced on the 11th September 2001 and what has followed in the World. As a result of these tragic events a small group has presented a Petition and Suggestions to be sent to the United Nations. This Petition was developed with the help of EduCareDo and can be read on our 'UN SUPPORT' website. We present here a short summary of the petition:

PETITION and SUGGESTIONS to the UNITED NATIONS
11TH SEPTEMBER and BEYOND...

TERRORISM
The United Nations and the International Court were set up by the world community to maintain international justice. Innocent people should not have to suffer under a war.
This Petition is to give the United Nations emergency powers to bring terrorists and governments sheltering them to justice.

FUNDAMENTALISM
Every fundamentalism leads to polarization, creates refugees and carries the germs of war.
Global Religious Fundamentalism breeds hatred and leads to terrorism and to the sufferings of the innocent.
Global Economic Fundamentalism is fuelled by greed and creates poverty, hunger and misery among the majority of human beings.
This Petition asks and provides suggestions for UNITED effort of all NATIONS to overcome extreme fundementalisms, which are at the core of most Human Rights Violations.

EDUCATION
Every citizen of the world should know about their Human Rights [The 30 Articles of the Universal Human Rights Declaration, signed by all nations] and hear about their violations.
This Petition asks and provides suggestions to expand and strengthen UN world educational programms to enable all citizens of the world to instruct their governments to sign and ratify all international human rights treaties.

NEW WORLD
The World is faced -unprepared- with the moral, social and economic effects of modern Science, Economy and Globalization.
This Petition asks the UN to introduce new Articles to cope with the effects of modern Economy and Science and the new Globalization in all spheres, for the benefit of the World.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Without regulated financial support the United Nations can't carry out its increasingly difficult tasks as the only World Body where every Country can have a voice.
This Petition asks that developed nations should pay their dues to UN in time. To bring up their level of international aid to UN recommended levels of 0.7% of GDP to alleviate world Poverty and to help to maintain world Peace.
We strongly recommend clarity and full disclosure by governments of the levels of giving or receiving aids for the benefit of all.

Thought Process leading to the Petition and Suggestions to United Nations
Including examples of two possible new Articles
SYMPTOMATOLOGY: Recognizing change in functions, indicating disease.
* Recognize, Study and Understand the Visible Symptom. Presented examples: Terrorism - Poverty.
* How do they interfere with Human Life?
Citizens killed in US and elsewhere. People dying from hunger.
* What extreme human 'beliefs' appear as inner causes of above?
Religious Fundamentalism ['Only one true religion, the others are infidels and enemies to be destroyed.'] Economic Fundamentalism ['The aim is the highest profit, the competitors are enemies to be destroyed.']
* What basic soul function fuels the above extreme 'beliefs'?
Hatred is one, Greed is another.
* What practical steps can we take, when we have perceived the inner springs giving rise to the above extremisms?
THREEFOLDING:
To explore between two opposites - two polarities- the various in-between stages and to see with inner honesty where I stand as a human being.
This could lead from Fundamentalism to Pluralism.
* 'Only one true religion', opposite: 'all religions are true'.
* In between, we find the followers of various, religions, sects and religious philosophies.
* We should learn in schools about the various world religions, not only the one we were born into. This could lead to Understanding, Tolerance and Acceptance of the other's Freedom and even opens up the door towards Love, the opposite of Hatred.
* We are arriving at a new possible Article for the Universal Declaration for Human Rights:
"Every child has the right to be taught about all world religions in depth, besides the religion he or she was born into."

* 'Only profit based 'free' economy is valid', Opposite: 'Non-profit based economy is valid'.
* In between, we find a large variety of less or more 'ethical' enterprises.
* We should strive to consider how we can meet the basic needs of human beings like food for nutrition, not merely the economic life for profit and 'medicine for healing', not merely for profit.
* The understanding and realization of the basic needs of human beings could lead to a Helping, Caring attitude to Free the others from the heaviest burdens of life with true Generosity, which is the opposite of Greed.
* Again a new possible article:
"Every human being has a right to adequate food, shelter and health care within a community. Laws should support food, medical and building cooperatives, where part or even the whole profit returns to the community."
* Idea, Ideal, Deed. To Learn and Educate, to follow the Ideal in Care and Help and to Do the Deeds.
